Time – Transcription of the talk given by H.H.Sri Sri Ravi Shankar New Year’s Eve 2003, German Ashram

Time is passing. Another year rolled by. Every day passes. Every month passes. But when Year passes, you wake up and see “Oh! One Year passed. But the same wakefulness or the same celebration if it can happen every month and if possible every day – So much of awareness grows in our life. Noticing the passage of time itself elevates our awareness. Either it shocks you and shakes you or it makes you wonder “Wow! Time has passed but I have not changed.” Something in you has not changed. Something in me has not changed. Things are all moving. Events are all gone.

We have come one more year closer to the end of our journey. This awareness can bring in a shift in our consciousness. So it is a very good idea that we have started the advance course with the New Year celebration. We are so fortunate that we are all here to go into silence, go into meditation. In meditation time stops. The direction East , west, north ,south are only as long as you are in a part,in a particular place on the planet. The moment you are in the outer space there is no direction. There is no right, left. There is no north south, east west. It is perpetual day. Transcending the time is meditation and observing the time as it passes certainly elevates your consciousness. So just sit behind and see how the clock ticks…tick..tick..tick.tick. No one can stop the time.

The time is called the divine. The divine is called the grand time- “Maha Kaala.” Shiva is called the Maha Kaala Means the grand time the great time. Whenever you had a great time you were with the Shiva principle deep within you. The quiet mind, the pleasant state of consciousness, the fourth state of consciousness. Celebrating the movement of time from the immobile awareness , from the state of immobility ,from the state of consciousness which is immobile.

So people celebrate the New Year with firecrackers and we celebrate with our inner flowerpots within us. The fountain of our spirit.

You know hearts don’t know how to count. Counting is part of head. It is the head which counts. Of the 2 parts of the brain, Left is logic no! Right is music! And left is mind and right is heart. So the counting belongs to the left and celebration singing belongs to the right. That is why if you get emotionally upset the grand mothers would say “go in a corner and count 10.” So when you stand in a corner and start counting 10 – Your left brain has started working and right brain activity has calmed down all the time. So when you become aware O time has passed. O one more year has passed.
